Novak Djokovic Loses to Lorenzo Musetti in Monte Carlo Last 16

Novak Djokovic has been knocked out of the Monte Carlo Masters in the last 16 by Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. The world number one was defeated 6-7 (2-7) 6-4 6-2 in a match that lasted two hours and 22 minutes.

The Serbian was the overwhelming favourite going into the match, having won the tournament nine times in the past. However, Musetti had other ideas and played an aggressive brand of tennis to take the match.

Musetti’s Aggressive Play Pays Off

Musetti was in control from the start, taking the first set 7-6 (7-2) in a tie-break. Djokovic then fought back to take the second set 6-4, but Musetti was not to be denied and he took the third set 6-2 to seal the victory.

The Italian’s aggressive play was the key to victory, as he hit 31 winners to Djokovic’s 14. He also served well, winning 79% of his first serve points and 63% of his second serve points.

It was a remarkable victory for Musetti, who is ranked 78th in the world. He will now face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarter-finals.
